SME cyber security is increasingly a business imperative

A growing number of enterprise-level organisations are assessing cyber security during supplier contract negotiations, which means cyber security is not only important to small and  medium enterprises (SMEs) to keep their own data safe, but is also increasingly a requirement for winning new business. The need for urgent action by SMEs regarding cyber security is further underlined by findings that around 50% plan to spend less than £1,000 on cyber defences in the coming year, that only 42% of SMEs are concerned about ransomware, and that more than a quarter of SME employees lack cyber training. Proactive SMEs, however, are turning to managed security service providers (MSSPs) and security software channel partners for help. There are also a number basic measures SMEs can take that will help improve their cyber security with little cost. In addition to these measures, SMEs need to be more proactive about cyber security to ensure data and brand protection as well as attract new business.
