  • CW ASEAN - December 2016

In Singapore, a nation united on its digital future, we analyze how the government has reorganized two departments to help digital technology prosper. We hear from those in the finance and education sectors backing the move, as well as the man heading the newly formed department.

We also look at how desktop virtualisation will continue to grow in the Asean region. Before cloud and big data began to dominate the IT headlines, virtualization was all the buzz in the enterprise IT space, but this was mostly server virtualization. But now the desktop variety is high on the agenda. Although cloud, along with big data and internet of things technologies, have taken everyone’s attention, the march of virtualization has not stopped.

We look at a good example in Thailand, where the country’s health ministry is embracing virtualization in a push towards e-health. The organization is centralizing its IT systems through virtualization to consolidate its health IT infrastructure and provide more accessible and affordable healthcare for its citizens. With more than 10,000 health IT units across Thailand’s 76 provinces, uniting health IT infrastructures will enable the quick exchange of information between MoPH, which is responsible for the oversight of public health in the country, and individual units located across the nation.
