A Star is Born: Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC)
To provide scientists with fresh answers to age-old questions about space, a collaboration of scientific and academic organizations launched the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) project in 1996.
The telescope they use is wildly complex, with a myriad of highly technical subsystems from across a wide array of disciplines. In order to get the most out of their operation, they needed an operating system that could centralize all of these components.
By partnering with Wind River, the GTC were able to produce a high-functioning operating system that allowed them to coordinate all the different systems within and around their telescope.
