Security analytics: Enabling organisations to get ahead of attackers

Cover Image

In the face of an ever-increasing number of cyber-attacks, many organisations are turning to security analytics, which is the use of data to measure and detect potential breaches. Analytics can be applied across any organisation to user behaviour, network traffic and even IoT devices.  The challenge is ensuring that this technology is remains effective by harnessing artificial intelligence, machine learning and predictive analytics to deliver faster detection rates, identify anomalies and provide advance warnings to augment human capabilities and even enable automated incident response in some cases. But some commentators warn that security analytics may not be for everyone and does not provide a universal panacea that will absolve organisations from assessing their IT assets, identifying which are the high-criticality applications, and building a resilience and recovery capability.
