Microsoft SharePoint 2007 and 2010 Storage and Virtualization Best Practices 


This session will focus on EMC’s considerations and best practice guidelines for setting up Microsoft Office SharePoint Server infrastructure, based on testing in EMC labs and from lessons learned from deploying some of the largest and most demanding SharePoint farms in production sites. Topics will include storage optimization, SharePoint farm virtualization, protection options (backup, DR, automation) and SharePoint archiving options.

Attendees of this event will:

• Know where SharePoint 2010 has changed compared to SharePoint 2007  

• Understand EMC's recommended storage architectures for SharePoint 2007 and 2010

• Choose the right protection strategy for SharePoint 2007 from backups & recovery to DR and automation

• Understand how to virtualize all of the SharePoint roles including SQL databases

• Gain a fuller understanding of how each component of SharePoint infrastructures relates to each other


Eyal Sharon Global Practice Manager, SQL/SharePoint Solutions, EMC

Eyal’s is responsible for leading the Global Solution Development efforts for all EMC Microsoft SQL and SharePoint solutions.   Eyal’s background roles  of Solution Architect and Project Manager enables  him to help EMC customers successfully implement complex technologies of Microsoft Applications, Storage Optimization, Business Continuance and Disaster Recovery.  These roles require Eyal to work diligently with EMC customers to define business requirements for relevant technologies and build validation cases.  Eyal has 15 years experience in the computer technology industry including positions at Digital Equipment Corporation, IBM Global Services and as a consultant to the Israeli Air Force.

James Baldwin Technical lead and evangelist for EMC’s Microsoft SQL and SharePoint Proven Solutions programs

James Baldwin is a technical lead for Microsoft SQL, SharePoint and Hyper-V in EMC’s Proven Solutions Engineering organization in Cork, Ireland.  On a daily basis, James collaborates with customers and EMC field personnel in deep technical solution conversations and helps to resolve existing challenges and indentifies how EMC can help in architecting or providing technology to solve problems.  With this field-driven knowledge it enables James to understand what solution use cases EMC need to focus on as part of their Proven Solutions engineering work, building and documenting Reference Architectures, Proven Solutions Guides and Best Practices across the application landscape.  Prior to working in Solutions, he spent 6 years in level3 EMC technical support, assisting with EMC’s replication and recovery products.  Every so often, he can be seen cycling his bike as a hobby.
