Information Security Magazine – November 2014

The votes are tallied. The winners of Information Security magazine’s Security Readers' Choice Awards 2014 are announced in this issue. We congratulate all of the winners in 22 product categories. This year several newcomers earned top scores alongside familiar names such as Dell, Cisco Systems, McAfee and Qualys. The competition in many categories was formidable and the winners topped an impressive group of highly rated technologies. We take a unique approach to our Security Readers' Choice Awards and ask Information Security magazine readers to only vote on the products in use in their respective organizations, with the goal of recognizing technologies and services that perform at the highest levels. More than 1,700 readers helped us pick the top security products of the year. Look for this year’s new categories — Denial of Service, Threat Intelligence and Wireless Network Security — in the list of award winning hardware, software and services. The issue also features an in-depth article by Dr. Anton Chuvakin, who discusses SIEM evolution and how to move mature deployments forward to take full advantage of the security monitoring and analysis capabilities that make these tools effective. Finally, we are delighted to present a thought-provoking conversation between Marcus Ranum and Gary McGraw. The two security industry veterans — and longtime Information Security magazine and SearchSecurity columnists — talk about frameworks and the IEEE Computer Center for Secure Design.
