Modern Infrastructure E-zine, April 2014: Cloud workload management, DaaS, and more

Some enterprises are charging ahead with a cloud-first approach to their workloads—not just test and dev, but production workloads as well. That strategy has worked well for several IT departments with varying needs, as featured in this April issue of Modern Infrastructure. Easier compliance was the reason for one software maker to move servers to Amazon Web Services. Another firm is marching firmly toward a cloud-first, cloud-all-the-time approach by requiring scripting for all environments. And one small business is building on cloud services to grow its reach.

With IT budgets flat but IT consumption growing steadily, outsourcing to a cloud provider is making a lot of sense, one analyst said. “Look at the dynamic,” said Carl Brooks, analyst with 451 Research. “Hotels don’t grow their own food; corporations won’t grow their own servers.”

Other feature stories in this month’s issue examine Desktop as a Service and whether it’s really a better version of VDI, and how IT teams have changed in the age of consumerization.
