CALENDAR MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE DEFINITION (continued):
CalConnect is the public name for the Calendaring and Scheduling Consortium, an industry and public organization created to further "the interoperable exchange of calendaring and scheduling information between dissimilar programs, platforms, and technologies." To that end, CalConnect seeks to promote understanding of, and mechanisms for, interoperable methodologies, tools, and applications that incorporate or use calendaring and scheduling data.Working with the IETF Internet standards body, CalConnect has worked on such standards as iCalendar (RFC 2445), iTIP (iCalendar transport-independent interoperability protocol, RFC 2446), and iMIP (iCalendar Message-based Interoperability Protocol, RFC 2447). In November 2007, Microsoft joined CalConnect, where it plans to work with members to define a formal time zone registry and a time zone service protocol to support global access and information exchange.
