PORTAL APPLICATIONS SOFTWARE DEFINITION (continued): … Light is an easy-to-use, lightweight, open source portal development framework. The framework is based on Java and Ajax and can be plugged into any Java-based Web application. Light can also be used as an independent portal application. A portal based on Light can be used to create specialized applications and databases for Web sites that can be served from within a single portal and tailored to meet the specific needs of individual users. A Light portal can be enabled and disabled at will by the user for access to a personalized portal or a more standard business interface. Jianmin Liu, a Web Application developer based in Winnipeg, Canada, is the founder and core developer of the Light Portal project.
