VIDEO GAMES DEFINITION (continued):
Pong is said to have been both the first coin-operated arcade game and the first popular home video game. Developed by Atari in the early 1970s, it spawned an industry. Essentially, Pong is the game of ping-pong in which a human player (the ping) interacts with an electronic player (hence, Pong). Later versions have become much more visual with more elaborate interactive characteristics. Today, a number of versions exist that can be played on the Web.
