Data centers are significant users of energy. According to the International Energy Agency, data centers and Data Transmission Networks accounted for almost a full percent of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.

What is less well known is that one of the main reasons why data centers use energy is for cooling. And, as data centers energy demand rises, do businesses risk instability of Australia’s energy grid (which is already happening in Ireland), that could result in a serious conundrum on extreme heat days; do we cool our data centers or cool our homes?
