Storage pros reap rewards in 2013 salary survey

Our Storage magazine/SearchStorage.com 2013 Salary Survey offers encouraging news: pay for storage pros has risen again to an average of $98,082. Salaries have climbed steadily over the decade, but new capacity demands and other challenges have increased at an even steeper rate. Still, most respondents to our eleventh annual survey view their jobs favorably, with 55% looking to leverage their storage chops to move up the IT ranks.

Creating a viable disaster recovery (DR) plan is hard work, but ensuring it will work when needed can be even tougher. A handful of available tools can make the job of testing a DR scenario a little easier while avoiding some of the costs of full-scale DR testing.

Big data can be a confusing term, but one thing is clear: traditional storage systems may not be able to meet the needs of big data analysis when millions—or even billions—of files are involved.
