John Chambers, CEO of Cisco since 1995, has his work cut out for him. The networking company grew its revenues by almost 11% in 2010 – not bad, in an industry that was still recovering from the financial crisis. But now, he faces the challenge of sustaining and even increasing that growth.

The problem is that Cisco is hugely dominant in its core network equipment market, which contributes about two-thirds of its business.

It has a 59% share of the routing and switching market, and market share growth is now incremental. This means that it has had to expand aggressively into other areas, turning it into a mixture of hulking behemoth and nimble opportunist.

This special nine-page report from Computer Weekly, updated for 2014, analyses the challenges facing Cisco, its financial performance, the services it offers, its place in the IT market and its future strategy.

Packed with graphs and diagrams, the report is essential reading for any organisation working with, or thinking of working with Cisco.
