Storage Magazine: Debate - All-Flash or Hybrid?

Flash technology debate: All-flash or hybrid?

It didn’t take long for a handful of startups to roll out all-solid-state storage arrays. Falling flash prices, and space-saving techs like dedupe and compression, let those vendors compete with traditional storage systems. As more vendors offer all-flash products, a debate is brewing over whether all-flash is too much flash technology and if hybrid arrays that mix flash with spinning disk storage can deliver more bang for the buck.

Backup is still job No. 1 and headache No. 1 for storage pros, and verifying how well a backup ran is still a challenge. Data protection management apps offer a detailed look at a backup environment with success/failure reports that reveal unprotected data.

Our Quality Awards survey for NAS systems has Dell and Hitachi prevailing among enterprise and midrange systems. User satisfaction is high regarding the service and reliability of their NAS arrays.
