IT budgets have stabilised and business investment in IT is on the rise, as 78% of CIOs say their budgets have increased or stayed the same, according to this major world-wide survey by Deloitte, the business advisory firm.


Deloitte gathered responses from over 700 CIOs and senior IT leaders across 36 countries, including 90 from the UK, for this report which provides insight into the opportunities and challenges of CIOs around the world.

The report looks at the career aspirations of IT leaders, the potential for the IT department to act as a hub of innovation, and the effectiveness of IT’s relationship with the business.


Key UK findings include:


  • 78% of IT budgets in the UK have either increased or stayed the same;
  • Only 19% of UK CIOs believe their organisations see the IT function as a credible hub of innovation;
  • But 65% have an understanding of how IT can support innovation strategies;
  • 31% of British CIOs are considering the role of COO or CEO as their next career step, demonstrating the strategic role of today’s CIO.
