Making business intelligence and analytics deliver on their promises
sponsored by IBM

This paper proposes the engineering of a business intelligence (BI) and BI analytics competence for the enterprise today in order to make the promise of BI technologies deliver. It also looks at
the key reasons for the “BI mismatch”, a misalignment in terms of competence with the desires and goals of management.

The paper defines BI and BI analytics for the purpose of the analysis and looks both at why these approaches are not synonymous with management information (or “MI”), but require a particular and specific approach to the definition, development and building of a BI competence within the organisation today.

Lastly, it will explore the approaches to engineering BI competence within the enterprise today. This will reference the work of industry analysts, the concepts of BI maturity and the author’s own deep experience of defining and delivering BI in the field.
