Blurred Boundaries: Is the Mid-range the new High-end?

High-end and mid-range storage architectures have evolved along with the IT era of the day. Mid-range storage has historically been a compromise of functionality for price. Decades ago, Storage used to be quite simple in that, there were storage arrays and storage products that were clearly targeted at high-end enterprise storage and then very separate storage arrays that were targeted towards mid-range storage.

Today modern workload virtualisation technologies are explored and implemented to be able to satisfy the mixed workload multi-tenancy requirements of virtualisation, which is very different to ‘yesterday’s’ single tenant workload type of approach.
