ABSTRACT:
The healthcare industry has room for improvement with regard to patient safety. In the U.S., preventable medical errors cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars each year. Healthcare IT will play a crucial role in advancing patient safety.
This webinar will present a systems-based approach to improving patient safety, drawing on lessons learned from high-reliability industries. Through these examples, we’ll outline some core concepts healthcare organizations can adopt to establish a culture of safety. This webinar also provides several examples of successful patient safety transformations in healthcare, and will stress the importance of having a strategic informatics platform to support safety initiatives.
Through this webinar, participants will learn:
- By applying concepts drawn from other “high reliability” industries, healthcare organizations can improve patient safety.
- How to enable the interoperability and analytics required for creating a culture of patient safety.
- Healthcare providers and organizations must reconsider IT strategy as part of their overall approach for improving patient safety.
