Existing closed source network attached storage (NAS) solutions come with bundled hardware and software in efforts to hold customers to that one vendor. Red Hat Storage doesn't. The three tenets of Red Hat Storage are ASE:

• Scale your NAS both horizontally (by adding more storage nodes, and your choice of commodity off-the-shelf x86 servers) and vertically with the additions of hard drives and JBODs (just a bunch of disks) SAS enclosures all on-demand with zero downtime;
• Extensibility, all open source with an active developer community to foster greater innovation.
