Four years ago when Simplot Australia was enjoying consistently solid business performance, it didn't matter so much that behind it was an application infrastructure riddled with problems; it was largely ungoverned, had accumulated heavy customization and complexity over the years without proper documentation, and lacked effective data management and business intelligence (BI).

However, with rapid expansion through acquisition being projected, Simplot sought to make architectural changes that would increase their IT efficiency and agility.
