Historically, most enterprise IT systems have been based on service-oriented architecture (SOA) and high-scale databases. These systems can easily handle moderate data volumes, but are struggling with the influx of big data generated and consumed by B2C mobile applications, B2B partners, and computing devices. To accommodate this surge of data, enterprise data grid technology was developed.
