Deduplication Appliances: Can HP Put a Dent in EMC's Hegemony?

Cover

HP has a single-product approach to end-to-end deduplication in its homegrown StoreOnce software and, at least for the time being, appears to have the performance advantage.

The company claims a backup ingest rate of 100TB per hour with the Catalyst software, or 40TB per hour without Catalyst. More importantly, HP claims that the B6200 can restore at the same rate that it can back up (40TB per hour without Catalyst).

Although there are some caveats, if HP's performance claims hold true, it puts the company well ahead of its primary competitors – most notably EMC's Data Domain unit. Check out this objective analysis from 451 Research to see if HP’s claims hold true.
