IT Consumerization has arrived, and with this trend comes a fundamental change in how we think about work and the role of IT. IT  Consumerization includes the ability to work any time, from any location, using any device, which brings business agility and potential for increases in productivity.  However, for the CIO and IT departments, IT Consumerization means rethinking how best to equip and support the end user, to protect data security from the data center to the device, and how to maintain control, while enabling end-user freedom.

One popular aspect of IT Consumerization regards personal device use at work called BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), and this trend presents new challenges for IT as well.  Many companies are either actively considering BYOD programs or have started pilots.  A key component of a potential BYOD move is application virtualization. Application Virtualization helps isolate the application from the OS and from other applications, which enables  you to deploy in multiple environments and easily provide compatibility fixes for applications, as well as improving security at the end point. Application virtualization will also provide the flexibility to begin desktop virtualization projects. Client systems running Windows® 7, such as the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook, are designed to handle the challenges of BYOD and consumerization of IT.
