IP Storage over 10 Gigabit Ethernet
sponsored by Dell, Inc.
The term "IP storage" refers to storage networks that access data resources over IP/Ethernet rather than direct attached storage devices. IP Storage is also an alternative to special-purpose SANs based on storage-specific networking protocols, such as the fibre channel protocol (FCP).
With 10 GbE technology enhancements enabling IP storage to leapfrog the performance of Fibre Channel at 2 Gbps or 4 Gbps, data center managers no longer need to make performance compromises in order to benefit from the traditional advantages of Ethernet over more specialized switching fabrics.
