ABSTRACT:
Developers were faced with a market fragmented by a wide range of platforms: as a result with low margins caused by the high cost of porting, sales had to be high just to break even. Two years later, the market is by no means homogenous, but the popularity of the iPhone/iOS/App Store combination and, more recently, the adoption of Google’s Android OS (and consequently its app store, Android Market) by a number of major handset manufacturers, such as, HTC, Samsung, LG, and Motorola, has made it significantly easier for developers to reach a wide audience without porting to so many platforms.
