Google's Voice service includes many unified communications features. It is not a complete voice service, as it does not really provide  the inbound and outbound capabilities of traditional voice services: it is only available in the US and does not provide complete coverage in many rural markets.

But it does provide some new features, including Internet-enabled unified communications features that allow customers to consolidate calling into one unique Google-provided phone number.

In addition, the Google Voice Internet portal is fully integrated into Google's account structure, providing further service integration potential. This aspect is just as attractive as the "free calling" aspect of the service.
