Recently, the Alvarado Independent School District began issuing laptops to every fourth, fifth and sixth grader in Alvarado. Each student has an e-mail account and his or her own digital portfolio for files on the network—providing the ability to save homework, research papers and assignments.

Archiving all of the students' valuable content demanded an enterprise storage solution. As the volume of hosted data grew, the school district realized that its direct-attached storage infrastructure could no longer support its data network.
