Managing the Virtualization Maturity Lifecycle

Virtualization is not a simple one-time effort that delivers results overnight. It requires a strategic approach which transforms the legacy infrastructure over weeks or months, and perhaps even years.

This in turn requires a 'whole lifecycle' approach to virtualization maturity, starting out with 'baby steps' (like some low-end server consolidation projects), before progressing through more sophisticated techniques (like optimized pooling of shared IT resources, or hands-free IT automation), to the highly desirable end state of the agile, dynamic data center, 'private cloud,' or a hybrid cloud model.

Working with partners, analysts and internal strategy teams, CA Technologies has devised a simple 4-step virtualization lifecycle maturity model to describe the strategic progression from entry-level virtualization and server consolidation, to a dynamic data center and private cloud.

This CA Technologies video provides an introduction to this virtualization lifecycle, and introduces the key management disciplines and activities needed to drive virtualization maturity — and success — at every stage of the virtualization lifecycle.
