One of the big problems in IT infrastructure today, based on data being studied at XioTech, is the challenge of getting efficiency out of infrastructure when it comes to virtualization - both virtual server and virtual desktop.

Research firms such as Gartner and IDC have published statistics suggesting that data will grow six-fold over the next 3 years, so efficiency in an era of increasing virtualization becomes paramount.

Companies today need to be prepared not only to develop virtual infrastructures, but to be highly cost-effective as well. They need to look at physical efficiency in terms of cost per unit input (e.g. watts, BTUs, or units of rack space), and also virtual efficiency, e.g. determining how well their infrastructure matches their companies' I/O patterns for virtual server and desktop.
