The Scalable Analytic Appliance: A Technical Overview
sponsored by ParAccel
The Scalable Analytic Appliance (SAA), powered by ParAccel and EMC, is a tightly integrated analytic database appliance. It brings together the performance and price-performance advantages of the ParAccel Analytic Database™ (PADB) with the enterprise reliability and feature set common in today's midrange SAN storage systems. And it does it in a unique manner that advances the PADB's scalable, shared-nothing architecture - using the SAN components not simply as an offline Disaster Recovery (DR) copy, but as an active extension of the shared-nothing architecture to deliver new functionality and enhance system reliability.
First- and second-generation scalable data warehouse platforms, from Teradata and Netezza, represent a system-oriented approach that delivers high value to customers, but at significant cost. Through the integration of a standard-server-based scalable analytic database from ParAccel, and enterprise-class midrange SAN components from EMC, the SAA delivers the reliability and manageability of the system-oriented approach at a reduced price point.
