ABSTRACT:
As organizations consolidate more virtual machines (VM) on fewer servers, and IT computing infrastructure is expected to support 7x24 operations, data protection and recovery becomes a greater challenge for IT managers. With shrinking backup windows, growing datasets, and multiple applications sharing fewer physical servers, the need to conserve bandwidth and computing cycles require existing backup methods be augmented with new technologies. Virtual server- and hypervisor-based snapshot and replication tools consume considerable physical server resources, and management overhead can become unwieldy as the infrastructure grows. The few integrated SAN-based solutions that exist are costly, requiring additional software licenses and annual software support fees.

This data sheet introduces Dell's Auto-Snapshot Manager / Microsoft Edition, a unique and innovative bundled data protection feature of the Dell EqualLogic PS Series iSCSI SAN that enables fast online backups and quick restores of Hyper-V virtual machines (VMs). It's designed to help deliver high-performance, fully-redundant, highly-available storage platforms for Hyper-V deployments - supporting departmental to mission-critical Windows server applications.
