This paper examines the components of the MPEG-4 standard that make it a viable solution for operators looking to realize gains in bandwidth efficiency. The required network components are covered as an end-to-end architecture solution to illustrate the practicality of near term deployments. In addition, the important techniques associated with IP Rights Management are discussed, along with in-place facilities for security key generation, key storage and key distribution.
