This article looks at the different types of changes which lead to different versions of web service artifacts, viz the service definition (WSDL) and the service implementation. Due to the distributed nature of web service, these changes pose a different type of challenges, which a web service implementer needs to address during the service development lifecycle. This article also looks at some of the best practices, which have been successfully implemented in various web service projects, for service version management.
