ABSTRACT:
Indexing creates catalogs of file content based on the metadata applied to content as it is stored. Search combs through indexes, comparing criteria against metadata and presenting results to the user. But index/search tools are not the same and can differ substantially in metadata support, object and performance scalability, search presentation, archive system integration and other key characteristics. It's important to have a clear understanding of the unique storage needs and objectives of your business before selecting an index/search tool. The product snapshots in this chapter highlight key specifications for a cross section of index and search software products.
