ABSTRACT:
Housing backup and archive data on a Data Domain nearline storage tier can result in substantial upfront savings compared to Tier-1 primary storage, and provides recurring savings through reduced utility costs. Data Domain has revolutionized disk backup and remote office data protection with patented high-speed, inline deduplication. Backup and archive data can be reduced in size by an average of 10-20x, so disk storage is now cost-effective for long-term on-site retention.

Data Domain systems reduce the overall cost of storage by utilizing less space, power, and data center footprint for improved data archiving and retention. In addition, customers wishing to consolidate their infrastructure will have the ability to leverage their Data Domain storage infrastructure for both Backup and Archive applications in the same system. This improves the efficiency across nearline applications and data types, as well as reduces management overhead by combining multiple applications' storage on a single system.
