ABSTRACT:
No one piece of technology exemplifies the Band-Aid solution to data transfer in the enterprise more than File Transfer Protocol, or FTP. In a recent survey of IT managers at 100 of the largest companies in the world, FTP use is growing substantially to meet internal and external data exchange requests. Read this executive supplement to Despite the Risks, FTP Use on the Rise in the Enterprise, to learn what Information Technology professionals in financial services, healthcare, retail, manufacturing, governmental services and other sectors, empirical and anecdotal information garnered revealed about FTP use in the enterprise. Among the surprising findings are the following:
- Global data transfers using FTP are growing faster in the financial services space than other industry segments (up 71 percent), and growing significantly across these other sectors (up 64 percent).
- FTP unreliability is impacting the bottom line via transmission problems that result in missed Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Respondents experienced an SLA infraction in as many as 1/5 of their transfers.
