ABSTRACT:
Few organizations properly estimate software quality when embarking on a new initiative. As a result, these organizations often experience cost overruns and schedule delays during the development and deployment of software as they are unable to efficiently remove defects. This webcast details a method to effectively measure and estimate software quality before deployment.
Poor quality is a key reason for software cost overruns and schedule delays. And although good historical data exists on quality, comparatively few companies estimate quality when starting new projects.
One thing to consider is how bug removal relates to development schedules. The current U.S. average for removing bugs before delivery of software is only about 85%. But companies that average 95% tend to also have the shortest development schedules and the lowest costs. Schedule and cost overruns are inversely related to defect removal efficiency levels.
