The Alcatel 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS) is a new breed of multiservice transport platform able to support any mix of traffic from 100 percent circuit to 100 percent packet. Service providers can uniquely address the transition from TDM/circuit to packet transport with a universal switch that enables flexible provisioning of Ethernet/MPLS, SONET/SDH and WDM/OTN in any proportion. This eliminates blocking problems encountered by traditional multiservice provisioning platform (MSPP)/ multiservice transport platform (MSTP) solutions as data traffic increases. The 1850 TSS enables native transport of packets and circuits as well as multiservice aggregation to optimize network efficiency and eliminates inefficient mapping into a technology. A powerful cross-layer network management and unified control plane simplify operations and reduce the total cost of ownership.
