ABSTRACT:
Based in the United Kingdom, the client is a global service provider in the telecom domain. Its offerings cover a wide array of services ranging from telephony &Internet to VPNs and wavelength services. The company had envisioned a new network for the future, which would help realize its goal of a scalable and reliable network. This required the company to have an end-to-end view of the network in a single place with the proper alarm management in place for better fault management and service assurance. This single system would also have to be up to date with the fast-changing network.
Infosys has completed the work for the first phase of a new inventory system using an OSS COTS product and is working on the subsequent phases. This involves not only designing the various technologies and their inter-working but also building the equipments in the inventory. To allow the users an ease of transition from their current systems, a customized front end, similar to their earlier systems, has been provided. This GUI was not part of the COTS product but has been built and integrated with it.
In addition to providing the new inventory system the team has also interacted with the various network planners to come up with new processes to be followed in this new system. This has resulted in a 'best-of-both worlds' solution where the end users are hidden from the intricacies of the underlying system and the network planners have an inventory system which provides them with an end-to-end view of the network.
