ABSTRACT:
The built-in Windows XP defragmenter is a "lite" version of an earlier release of Diskeeper 8.0 Professional Edition ($45.95 direct). Like the built-in defragger, Diskeeper is designed to defragment in multiple passes. Rather than striving for 100 percent defragmentation, it simply aims to improve performance.
The main working screen emphasizes improvements in speed and reliability more than the obligatory map of fragmented clusters. The software doesn't spend time organizing files by how recently they were used. This philosophy seems to work: In one 2-hour pass it accomplished significant performance gains. We tested manual defragging but recommend the Set It and Forget It mode for normal use. |
