  • How businesses can win talent war with mobile apps, HR data analytics, and cloud technology

Becoming more digital has emerged as a ruling concept among forward-looking organisations in recent years. Now, while having multi-channel engagement with customers is a big aspect of digital, so too is attracting and retaining the employees who can make a reality of digital transformation. In 2016, one of the stand-out trends in HR technology is the redesign of traditional performance management, away from old-school, top-down annual appraisals towards more frequent and agile check-ins. HR data analytics is also being pressed into service in the war for digital talent recruitment and retention in 2016. Rolls Royce is, for example, modernising its HR technology to be more data analytics driven and cloud delivered over the next two years. At the heart of the new wave of data analytics is open source data storage and database software, such as the Hadoop stack and NoSQL. Open source might yet disrupt proprietary software in ways that cut costs and offer more agility to CIOs finally realising its much-delayed Messianic promise.
